High-Performance Metal Repair Stick

₹975.00

LOCTITE EA 3463 is a two-component, steel-filled, kneadable epoxy repair compound designed for fast emergency repairs, metal rebuilding and industrial maintenance applications. Supplied in a convenient stick form, it is mixed simply by cutting off the required amount and kneading the resin and hardener together before application.

The cured material provides high compressive strength and strong adhesion to many clean surfaces. It can be used for repairing pipes, tanks, castings and other metal components, including applications where the surface is damp. Henkel also states that the product can cure under water, making it particularly useful for certain emergency maintenance and repair situations.

Typical Applications

LOCTITE EA 3463 is designed for a wide range of industrial repair applications, including:

Pipe and Tank Repair

It can be used to help stop leaks and repair defects in pipes, tanks and similar metal equipment. It is particularly useful for emergency maintenance where conventional repair methods may require significant equipment or downtime.

Metal Repair and Rebuilding

The steel-filled epoxy can be used to rebuild worn or damaged areas of metal components and restore non-structural defects.

Oversized Bolt Holes

LOCTITE EA 3463 can be used to fill oversized bolt holes and restore damaged areas before subsequent machining or assembly operations, where appropriate.

Casting Repair

It can be used to repair non-structural defects in castings, including holes and damaged areas.

Weld Smoothing

The putty can be applied to irregular or rough areas around welds to create a smoother repair surface.

Henkel specifically identifies emergency repairs of tanks, pipes and castings as typical applications.

How LOCTITE EA 3463 Works

LOCTITE EA 3463 consists of two epoxy components: a resin and a hardener. The components are combined by kneading the stick until a uniform colour is obtained.

After mixing, the material is applied directly to the damaged or prepared area. It cures at room temperature and develops a hard, steel-filled epoxy repair material.

The technical data sheet specifies approximately 3 minutes of gel time/workable time and about 10 minutes cure time at 25°C, although actual cure performance depends on temperature, quantity applied and application conditions.

Application Procedure

Clean the surface thoroughly and remove dirt, grease, oil and loose material.

Cut the required quantity of LOCTITE EA 3463 from the stick.

Remove the protective wrapper from the portion being used.

Twist and knead the resin and hardener together.

Continue kneading for approximately 2–3 minutes or until the material has a uniform colour.

Firmly press the mixed compound into the damaged area.

Shape and smooth the repair as required.

Allow the material to cure before subjecting the repair to significant service loads.

Henkel recommends cleaning/degreasing the surface before application. The manufacturer also advises using gloves and not mixing the product with bare hands.

Damp and Underwater Applications

One of the important characteristics of LOCTITE EA 3463 is its ability to adhere to most damp surfaces and cure under water. This makes it useful for selected maintenance situations where completely drying the substrate may be difficult.

However, Henkel notes that when the product is applied to wet surfaces, bond strength can be lower than when applied to properly prepared surfaces. Therefore, for critical repairs, the best possible surface preparation should be used whenever practical.

Mechanical Properties

According to Henkel's technical data sheet, after curing for one week at 23°C, typical properties include:

Property

Typical Value

Appearance – mixed: Metallic black

Shore hardness: 70 Shore D

Tensile strength: 18 N/mm²

Tensile modulus: 105 N/mm²

Compressive strength: 50 N/mm²

Elongation: 0.3%

Glass transition temperature: 54°C

Thermal conductivity: 1.01 W/(m·K)

Lap shear strength – grit-blasted mild steel: 3.8 N/mm²

These are typical technical-data-sheet values rather than guaranteed specifications for every application.

Appearance and Colour

Before mixing, the resin and hardener have different appearances. After mixing, LOCTITE EA 3463 develops a metallic black appearance and cures to a hard, steel-filled epoxy material.

Industries and Applications

LOCTITE EA 3463 is particularly relevant to industrial maintenance and repair, including applications in:

Oil and gas equipment

Power-generation equipment

Industrial machinery

Pipework

Tanks and vessels

Pumps and mechanical equipment

Metal castings

General plant maintenance

Emergency equipment repair

Henkel specifically lists industrial maintenance and repair, including oil and gas and power generation, among the related market segments.

Advantages

Fast Emergency Repair

With a stated cure time of approximately 10 minutes under standard conditions, the product is designed for rapid maintenance and emergency repair work.

Easy Kneadable Application

The stick format combines the two components in a convenient form, eliminating the need for separate measuring and mixing of resin and hardener.

Steel-Filled Formulation

The steel-filled epoxy is intended for metal rebuilding and repair applications and develops high compressive strength after curing.

Damp-Surface Capability

The compound can adhere to damp surfaces and can cure underwater, providing an option for certain difficult maintenance conditions.

Versatile Repair Material

It can be used for leak stopping, filling oversized holes, smoothing welds and repairing non-structural defects in metal components.

Important Application Considerations

LOCTITE EA 3463 is intended primarily for repairing and rebuilding, not as a substitute for structural engineering repairs. The manufacturer's stated applications include non-structural defects in castings.

For pressure-containing equipment, safety-critical components, structural parts or repairs exposed to significant mechanical loads, the suitability of the repair should be evaluated against the equipment manufacturer's requirements and applicable engineering standards.

Packaging

Henkel lists LOCTITE EA 3463 in multiple package sizes depending on the market. The Indian Henkel product listing identifies LOCTITE EA 3463 IN 40ZEN, while other Henkel markets list sizes including 50 g and approximately 114 g. Packaging and availability can vary by market.
