Loctite 272 Threadlocker - 50ml

High Strength, High Temperature Retaining Compound

₹475.00

LOCTITE 272 is a red, high-strength, medium-viscosity anaerobic threadlocking adhesive designed for the permanent locking and sealing of threaded fasteners. It is particularly suitable for large bolts and studs exposed to high temperatures, vibration and mechanical loads.

LOCTITE 272 cures when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air. Once cured, it helps prevent threaded fasteners from loosening due to shock and vibration while also sealing the threads against leakage.

The product provides high-temperature resistance up to 232°C (450°F), making it suitable for demanding industrial and automotive applications where conventional threadlockers may not provide sufficient temperature resistance.

How LOCTITE 272 Works

LOCTITE 272 is an anaerobic-curing adhesive. When applied to a threaded metal assembly, the adhesive remains liquid while exposed to air. When it becomes confined between close-fitting metal threads and oxygen is excluded, it begins to cure and forms a strong polymeric bond.

The cured adhesive fills the microscopic gaps between mating threads, increasing resistance to rotational movement. This helps protect threaded assemblies from loosening caused by vibration, shock and thermal cycling.

It also provides a sealing effect along the threaded joint.

Typical Applications

LOCTITE 272 is suitable for demanding threaded fastening applications such as:

Large bolts and studs

Engine and powertrain assemblies

Industrial machinery

Electric motors

Pumps and compressors

Gearboxes and mechanical drives

Automotive components

Heavy equipment

Flanges and threaded connections

High-temperature machinery

Industrial maintenance and repair

Threaded fasteners exposed to vibration

Henkel specifically identifies automotive powertrain/chassis and industrial manufacturing, including electric motors, among the product's application areas.

High-Temperature Performance

One of the key advantages of LOCTITE 272 is its ability to withstand temperatures up to 232°C (450°F). This makes it suitable for threaded assemblies operating in elevated-temperature environments.

It can be considered for applications where the fastener is exposed to:

Continuous or intermittent high temperatures

Engine heat

Thermal cycling

Mechanical vibration

Shock and dynamic loading

Actual performance depends on the joint design, substrate, curing conditions and service environment.

High-Strength Thread Locking

LOCTITE 272 is formulated for high-strength locking, making it suitable where a threaded assembly needs substantial resistance to loosening.

It is particularly useful for larger threaded fasteners, including large bolts and studs. The earlier Henkel TDS specifically identifies applications involving M25 and larger fasteners.

Because of its high strength, removal may require significantly more torque than lower-strength threadlockers. In maintenance situations, controlled application of heat may be required to assist disassembly, depending on the assembly and manufacturer's recommendations.

Thread Sealing

In addition to locking the fastener, LOCTITE 272 fills the small clearances between mating threads. This provides a sealing effect that can help prevent leakage through threaded joints.

This feature can be useful where the threaded connection needs both mechanical locking and sealing.

Application Procedure

1. Clean the Surfaces

Remove oil, grease, dirt, rust and other contaminants from the threads. Henkel recommends using a suitable LOCTITE cleaning/degreasing product such as LOCTITE SF 7070 before application.

2. Apply the Threadlocker

Apply LOCTITE 272 to the engagement area of the threaded fastener. Ensure sufficient adhesive is present on the threads that will be engaged.

3. Assemble

Install the bolt, stud, nut or threaded component and assemble to the specified torque.

4. Allow to Cure

Allow the adhesive to cure before subjecting the assembly to significant mechanical or pressure loads.

For passive metals such as stainless steel, aluminum or plated surfaces, or when curing below approximately 5°C, Henkel recommends considering an appropriate activator such as LOCTITE SF 7649 to accelerate cure.

Advantages of LOCTITE 272

High Strength: Provides strong resistance to loosening of threaded fasteners.

High Temperature Resistance: Suitable for applications requiring resistance up to 232°C (450°F).

Vibration Resistance: Helps prevent fastener loosening caused by vibration and shock.

Thread Sealing: Helps seal the threaded connection while locking the fastener.

Large Fasteners: Particularly suitable for large bolts and studs.

One-Component Formulation: Ready to use without mixing.

Industrial Maintenance: Provides a reliable method for securing threaded assemblies without mechanical locking devices.

The appropriate threadlocker should be selected according to fastener size, required strength, temperature, substrate and maintenance requirements.

Important Considerations

LOCTITE 272 is intended primarily for metal threaded assemblies.

High-strength threadlocking makes subsequent disassembly more difficult than with medium-strength products.

Surface cleanliness significantly affects curing and final performance.

Passive metals may require an activator for faster curing.

Always verify chemical compatibility and operating conditions for specialized applications.

For safety-critical or highly loaded assemblies, follow the equipment manufacturer's specifications and the current LOCTITE technical documentation.

Packaging

Henkel currently lists LOCTITE 272 in 50 ml and 250 ml bottles, with packaging availability varying by market.
